SOME WORDS ABOUT KRAKOW:

Krakow is a city of one million people in the very heart of Europe. Poland's former capital, the cradle and Pantheon of Polish kings, it is also a city of learning with one of the oldest universities in Europe. Krakow is a city both of museums and of youth: a city of one hundred fifty thousand university students. It is a city of meetings, festivals and conferences. Moreover, it has preserved its individual body of structure and buildings. The functionality of its thirteenth-century urban plan can be seen in the fact that it still works today: now as then, cultural, administrative and commercial life is focused around Krakow's 40,000-square-meter town square, the largest one in Europe. At the time of LB-12 conference you could enjoy the 17th Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow. It is one of the most important and largest events of its kind in the world. Shaped by outstanding figures in various fields of Jewish culture and art, the Festival became over time a place where Jews and non-Jews from all over the world could meet. They are linked by the shared values that they find in Kazimierz and Krakow , the space of the Festival.

ABOUT THE MEETING:

LB12 is part of a series of biannual international conferences started originally to discuss Langmuir Blodgett films and their applications. With the ongoing progress and expansion of interface chemistry and physics into other research and technology fields the venue of the LB conferences now include interdisciplinary topics related to organized molecular films and nanostructures in general. The last two LB conferences were held in Beijing (2003) and Sapporo (2005) and provided a forum for the exchange of concepts and ideas between scientists from Asia, Europe and North America. With the location of the conference at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow in 2007 we hope to attract students and researchers from Central and Eastern Europe to participate in a broad discussion of fundamental and applied aspects of organized molecular films.

LB12 will focus on supramolecular assemblies, molecular devices, and biological interfaces including cell-surface interactions. The related nano-science aspects and nano-technologies will be also extensively discussed. The conference will be of interest to chemists, physicists, biologists, material scientists, polymer scientists, chemical engineers and researchers in related fields.

MEETING TOPICS:

  1. Langmuir monolayers; LB film fabrication
  2. Self-assembly and self-organized systems
  3. Multilayer assembly
  4. Nanoparticles/matrix composites
  5. Studies of single molecules at interfaces
  6. Dynamic and mechanic properties at interfaces
  7. Interfacial chemical reactions
  8. Biological Interfaces
  9. Biocompatible Surfaces
  10. Cell/Surface interactions
  11. Lateral organization of interfacial films
  12. Organic and Molecular Electronics
  13. Lithography and Nanopatterning

MEETING FORMAT:

The symposium will consist of a public lecture, plenary lectures, invited lectures, and oral contributions. 2 poster sessions will also be organized. The meeting language is English.

CONFERENCE PROGRAM:

The international selection committee has finished their work and the program with contributions selected for oral presentation is now available online.
There was many more abstracts submitted that compete for oral presentations than we could put into the program and the selection process was not easy (one of the points was not to select more than one oral presentation from the same group) but finally the program is ready.
All those who have submitted abstracts for oral poresentation and their abstracts were not included in the program are still kindly invided to present their work during LB12 Conference as a poster.
All abstracts submitted for POSTER presentation were accepted.

Lists of accepted presentations are available online:

Of course, there can still be some small changes in the program.

The LB12 final program is available online as an Adobe Acrobat pdf file 153kB (updated: June 19, 2007)

SOCIAL PROGRAM:

There are are planned two free-of-charge tours prepared for the participants of LB-12 Conference and for accompanying persons on the last day of the conference (Thursday, July 5) in the morning:

Please select in the on-line registration form one of the options:
(Auschwitz/Wieliczka/"not going to participate in any of the two trips")

MEETING FEE:

The complete information about conference fees and payments is available on a separate web page.

REGISTRATION:

You are welcome to fill the on-line Final Registration Form.

Early registration will ensure availability of accommodations at reduced prices and help the organizers in planning the meeting. The deadline for early registration and all payments is May 15, 2007. Late registration/payment is charged 100 Euro extra.

TRAVEL GRANTS AND STIPENDS:

Students and researchers can compete for stipends (registration fees) or travel grants to participate in the conference. The winners in this competition will be selected based on the abstracts received by March 1st, 2007 by the international committee. Those competing for a stipend/grant may include supporting information in the form of one publication (or accepted manuscript) to the selection committee.
